WSOP 2006 Update
After 24 hours of play the 8,773 hopefuls who put their $10,000 down in the hope of winning the biggest game in town have been scythed down to around 1,200, of whom 873 will win anything from $14,000 to the first prize $12 million and the coveted World Series of Poker gold bracelet that they hope will be their ticket to poker immortality.
WSOP 2005 winner, Australian Joe Hachem (who won $7.5 million), is performing solidly in the 2006 WSOP with 142,200 chips. Canadian 'Kid Poker' Daniel Negreanu is among the chip leaders with 331,000.
The British are being represented nobly by Hendon Mobster Barny Boatman with 52,000 and bracelet winner John Gale with 170,000 worth of chips.
Play resumes (Day 3) on Friday 4th August. Players will then play down to the final table of nine on Thursday 10th August. Each one of the final tableists becomes an instant millionaire!
