Irish Open Poker Tournament
Registration has opened for the
Paddy Power Poker Irish Open 2006. Players are advised to register early to avoid disappointment - the 3,000 euro (+200 euro) event has a maximum capacity of 400 players and is expected to sell out ahead of the start of the event on Saturday 15 April 2006.
The Irish Open is Europe's longest established poker tournament - it is celebrating its 25th birthday this year. The event has a guaranteed prize pool of 1 million euro as well as 50,000 euro added by the tournament sponsors.
Players can pay in full for the event at the festival through The Merrion Casino Club which has been associated with the Irish Open for much of its 25 year history. Deposits do not secure a passage into this tournament - payment in full is necessary for players to confirm their place.

Party Poker buys Empire Poker
PartyGaming buys Empire Online's assets for $250 million.
British online gambling group PartyGaming PLC has agreed to buy the Party Poker poker room skin activities of smaller rival Empire Online Ltd for $250 million in a deal to settle a legal spat.
Empire in December filed a lawsuit claiming 'substantial' damages after its bigger rival on Oct 8 ringfenced its own gambling platform from that used by partners. The move culminated in a profit warnings from Empire.

Amateur Wins Party Poker Tournament
Paul Wieber a 32-year-old customer service manager at a Grand Rapids sign company, won
Party Poker's 'High Flier Jet Promotion' tournament and $125,000.
Wieber had been playing online poker for only about six months and got into the
Party Poker tournament through a freeroll.
Satellites to the private jet promotion began Nov. 26, 2005, for as little as $6. Wieber got into the main tournament by entering one of the daily freeroll events that cost him 500 Party Points.

Nevada Gaming Commission Says No to Topless Poker
The Nevada Gaming Commission told Sin Gentlemen's Club that it can't go forward with its plans to hold its Tuesday night Topless Poker League.
Dancers at the Sin Gentlemen's Club were suppose to act as dealers and the idea was for them to remove a piece of clothing with every blind level changed. The players were to remain clothed at all times.

Naked truth about poker players revealed
Survey opens up the secret world of the poker player - they play nude but are conservative, they prefer poker to sex and they bluff in the real world too.
'Poker 2006: The State of Play' - a comprehensive survey published today by Paddy Power Poker delves deep into the hearts and minds of British and Irish poker players and finds that:
- 55% of all poker players have played the game naked or in their underwear.
- 63% would rather play poker than have sex.
- 13% have injured themselves playing poker.
- 33% would stake their partner in a $1 million game.
- 37% have told little white lies in order to play poker.
- 71% have wanted to destroy their computers after a 'bad beat'.
- 81% believe poker is a game of skill.
- 38% play poker every day.
- 37% think Gerry Adams would make the best poker player amongst British and Irish politicians.
The survey of over 500 poker players across Ireland and Britain also found that most poker players in Ireland will vote for Fianna Fail in the next general election while most players in the UK intend to vote Conservative.
When asked who would win a game of poker between George W. Bush, Osama Bin Laden, Tony Blair, Fidel Castro, Kim Jong Il and Saddam Hussein, Fidel Castro was voted the clear champ.
Given the choice of playing a game of poker with a historical figure, Elvis narrowly won out over gunslinger and poker legend Wild Bill Hickok. Almost as many people wanted to play with Hitler as Jesus.

Celebrity Poker Night with Brad Sherwood
Tuesday's Celebrity Poker Night with Willie Garson marked Hollywood Poker's biggest tournament to date. Not only did the excitement and banter in the lobby entice tons of players to join in, but the fact that Hollywood Poker promised to donate proceeds to Willie's charity of choice, amFAR, drew a record number of players to the tables.
