Bruce Crispin Leyser sues Jamie Gold

Jamie Gold, winner of the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event, is being sued by Bruce Crispin Leyser for $6 million.

Leyser claims that he and Gold had an agreement prior to the Main Event in which he would receive 50% of Gold's winnings. Leyser has presented a recording from his telephone answering machine in which Gold confirms the deal the morning of the final table. A Clark County District judge therefore created a 15-day restraining order that forbid Harrah's from releasing the $12 million prize money while the courts sort out the details.

Gold has hired an attorney but has not made any public comment about the lawsuit.

Worlds 1st Strip Poker Champion

The World's 1st Strip Poker Champion declared in London!

John Young of Slough, London, was today declared the world's first strip poker champion in a world record breaking tournament in London.

John saw off 194 other hopefuls at the Paddy Power World Strip Poker Championships in London's Cafe Royal to walk away with £10,000, a specially commissioned Golden Fig Leaf trophy and entry to the Paddy Power Irish Open where up to €2 million will be up for grabs. In addition the sponsor Paddy Power promised to donate a further £10,000 to the charity of the winners choice, Cancer Research, after John sportingly revealed all to the crowd...

The tournament kicked off at 1pm as 195 hopefuls from over 12 countries set out to keep their clothes on and carve themselves a place in history as part of a new official Guinness world record for the biggest Strip Poker tournament ever.

John, who emerged as the winner after eight hours at the poker table, said: "It was quite hard to bluff in the buff but luckily I kept my pocket aces hidden away! This was easily the most fun I've had at a poker table."

One of the last standing women (picture also attached) was Laura Barnett from Stirling, Scotland, who went out in a blaze of towel waving glory after a valant effort at the table.

The event had originally been an April Fools story by Paddy Power earlier this year but after receiving requests from all over the world to take part the bookie decided to run the tournament for real.

Each player was given five items of clothing which they used to buy chips - as they lost their chips they cashed in their clothes for more. Some even opted to strip from the bottom up and sat playing naked except for a cap!

Paddy Power himself said: "Sometimes I just love coming into work! The event was an amazing success considering it grew originally from an April Fools story. I've never seen so many people so eager to lose the shirt off their backs. Hopefully next year we'll break our own record."

However, the winner will be left with a moral dilemma. If they decide to donate their winnings to charity, Paddy Power will double the prize to £20,000.

Operation Helping Hand

Professional poker players are all about the raise, but Kenna James had never seen one so poignant.

An 8-year-old boy, watching a veteran who lost both legs during a rocket grenade attack in Iraq, pledged his allowance for the year - about $1,000 - to a non-profit organization that assists severely injured soldiers.

In a room full of poker players, the raising had just begun.

When it was all over, James' Operation Helping Hand - a benefit tournament held this week during the World Series of Poker's main event in Las Vegas - had raised $170,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project, which provides prosthetics and other care to veterans. "It started with a passing of the hat to auctioning off items to 8- and 60-year -olds pouring out their hearts to these guys," James said of the after-party. "It was very emotional."

"That was big for us," said Heath Calhoun, 27, of Roanoke, Va., the Army veteran who lost both legs above the knees. "As an outsider to the poker world, they made us feel like family. Personally, I don't know how to play poker. They were more than willing to let me play."
