Poker Player Magazine Freeroll Tournament
With the 2007 World Series of Poker just around the corner,
Bodog Poker has announced the opportunity of a lifetime. British World Series Champion hopefuls can take a shot at having their $10,000 tournament buy-in fee paid for, along with $2,000 for travel and accommodation expenses by winning an online freeroll tournament, which is taking place Monday, May 7, 2007 at 8:05pm GMT.
In addition to the chance to play for millions, international poker players can also immediately stake their claim to fame by being part of Team Bodog, which produced the 2006 World Series of Poker Champion, alongside a list of other acclaimed poker superstars.
In 2006,
Bodog Poker accomplished its goal of qualifying over 500 players to the WSOP with over 400 of these players making it to the Main Event. This year, Bodog has taken a different approach by allowing tournament players to decide how to designate their winnings. Players can use their qualifier packages and opt for a choice to participate and go for the glory in the WSOP, WPT and other events.
"The Player's Choice approach gives our players the autonomy to decide on playing for whatever they wish, be it a chance at poker stardom, a shopping spree or a relaxing vacation," Bodog founder Calvin Ayre said.
With a special password provided to readers of the UK magazine Poker Player, players can gain entry into the tournament simply by signing up for an account at
Bodog Poker with no deposit required. Players who rank high enough also stand to win from the additional prize pool, which includes 500 tournament credits for 2nd place and 110 tournament credits for 3rd - 20th place - all enough to buy into Bodog's weekly Sunday night $100K guaranteed tournament.

Irish Poker Open 2007 - Day One
708 players started in the €2 million guaranteed
Irish Open 2007 but two-thirds fell by the wayside on day one.
The 26th Irish Open got underway in explosive fashion yesterday and, as one might expect from a field comprising some of the world's leading players mixing it up with a slew of online poker qualifiers, Irish cardroom stalwarts, aggressive Scandinavians, English raiders and a clutch of celebrity chancers, the action came thick and fast.
Carlos Mortensen was the first casualty when his aces were cracked by kings in the 11th minute - to the audible shock of the entire room - and by close of play at around 2am only 247 of the original 708 were left standing.
Other notable casualties were Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Laak, Jennifer Tilly, Andy Black, Teddy Sheringham and Michael Greco.
Blazing a trail in the tournament, with well above the average chip stack are Mike Sexton, Paul Gourlay, Roland deWolfe, Ram Vaswani and Dan Harrington.
In a less desirable position but nonetheless living to fight another day are Padraig Parkinson, Donnacha O'Dea, Jeff Kimber, George McKeever and James English.

Gary Kaplan Caught
Gary Kaplan the former gambling tycoon and co-founder of BetonSports has been arrested in the Domenican Republic and is likely to be handed over to the FBI. Kaplan disappeared last July quickly after David Carruthers was arrested.
A St. Louis federal court charges Mr Kaplan for running a $3.5 billion criminal enterprise. Something that the gambling community sees preposterous and hypocritical.

Giant Irish Poker Open Novelty Chips
The €2million guaranteed
Irish Poker Open was thrown into disarray last night as 39,750 forty inch novelty chips, destined for use in the tournament, were delivered to the
Paddy Power Poker after an administrative blunder.
The chips, which arrived in twelve forty-foot containers and are currently being transferred to storage, were ordered in error and the company now has less than one week to find 40,000 usable alternatives.
"Poker chips are always 40mm wide, it is an industry standard," said Poker Marketing Manager Ross O'Mullane. "I signed a booking form with American company Novelty Chips-n-Tricks, not noticing some inverted commas after the number 40."
Company bosses have told O'Mullane his jobs on the line unless he can find a worthwhile use for the one metre discs.
"These chips are truly huge, we're looking at having a giant card game in a field somewhere, or maybe we could build shelters for homeless people."

(this was of course another April Fools joke from the Irish bookmaker)
