What kind of poker games are there?
All Poker games originate from two basic types, Draw Poker and Stud Poker, and only one deck of cards is used. The aim of the game is for one card player to beat the other card players to win the pot. This can be achived by 1) showing the highest ranking hand at showdown, 2) in the game of Omaha Hi-Low Eight Qualifier - the lowest hand at the showdown, or 3) using a strategy called bluffing.
The aim in Poker is simply to use your best hand to beat the other players, or bluff. In all Poker games with the exception of 'Manila', the Ace may be the highest or lowest card for eg. the purpose of a straight. A, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10, J, Q, K, A.
One hand of Poker consists of an initial deal and/or community cards, card draws, and a number of betting rounds. The number of rounds depends on the type of game. Players bet against each other's hands.
A player can withdraw from any round of play. When this happens it is known as 'folding'. If a player does not think the cards are good enough, the player may fold. By folding the player does not need to contribute further to the pot but also forfeits any claim to the pot.

Am I playing against the House?
When playing Poker the house takes no part in the game. The House's role is to host the game and provide a Dealer and the required tools and rules. At the end of each round of play or during the course of a hand, the House takes a tiny amount from the pot in return for offering these services.
