Huck Seed

Some of the most popular professional poker players out there are those who are very vocal at the table. People like to see a good quarrel and they like to see others duke it out, and possibly embarrass themselves on TV. That's what showbiz is supposed to be about, right?

Well, if that is the cost of popularity, apparently Huck Seed wants none of it. He's quiet, composed and never goes steaming on about anything. He is the kind of player, who you wouldn't even notice if it weren't for his actions, and this guy's actions sure speak for him louder than words ever could.

The physically impressive (6'7") ex-basketball player does stand out of a crown of lovingly nurtured pot-bellies though, not just by size, but by the peculiarity of his name too.

Just by looking at him, one would never guess that he's staring a 4 time WSOP bracelet winner in the face, a professional poker player who's not only won the 'Big Dance' in 1996, but who has also finished 33 times in the money in different WSOP events.

Born in 1968, in Corvallis, Montana, Huck Seed exhibited an early interest in mathematics and sports. He became a member of the Montana All-State basketball team.

Seed's intentions were rather serious about his becoming an engineer, to which end he joined the California Institute of Technology after high-school.

While attending classes there though, he got a taste of poker, and that would prompt him to put his studies on hold for a while, at least until he managed to explore the wonderful world of professional gambling deeper. That break still lasts today though, as he became so successful at poker, that doing anything else is a bad time and money investment for him.

He first participated in the WSOP in 1990, and promptly finished 4th in two events: the FL Holdem and the Stud Hi-Lo one. In 1994, he took down his first WSOP bracelet. He won the PL Omaha event for a handsome prize. The following year, he was unlucky. He didn't achieve anything noteworthy at the WSOP, but 1996 would more than make up for that lull.

He won two more WSOP bracelets in 2000 and 2003, both in Razz events. He also has 2 WPT money finishes.

Nicknamed "HuckleBerry" by his fellow professionals, Seed is also well-known for the crazy proposition bets he's involved in. Once he bet $50k that he could stand in the ocean for 18 hours, and lost. He also said he would not shave his beard for a year once, and had a considerable amount of money riding on the prop, when he was forced to shave by the circumstances (he had to attend a funeral and wanted to look respectful).

Following his main event win, he has settled down a little, he's much less of a dominating force at the table now, but he still makes a comfortable living playing poker.
