Is Poker a Skill Game?

The biggest distinction between poker and gambling is that in gambling you play against the house (dealer). In poker, the house is an impartial provider of the game services.

Another major difference between poker and gambling is that in poker every player has an equal chance to win. In gambling the house has a definite advantage against the player. Therefore it can be said that poker is fair, and gambling is not.

Poker is definately a game of skill just like backgammon or chess where the talented players prevail against less talented players. Luck may provide short-term results but it is the skill of the player that separates the winners from the losers.

Many people would agree with this, and despite the fact that there are millions of people around the world playing poker, it is still regarded as a game of chance.

Backgammon however, a game that never enjoyed the popularity of online poker, is considered a skill game.

Backgammon

The game of backgammon is the oldest board game known to mankind. It is played just about everywhere in the world and since the Internet backgammon can be played online. Playing online backgammon is just as fun as playing the real thing!
